Roland Alphonso backstage, Netherlands. (1997)
Rolando Alphonso, tuning up backstage at club DePaard in The Hague, Netherlands on November 16, 1997. Alphonso and the Skatalites were in the midst of a six week, seven country tour of Europe that included a couple shows on the island of Reunion, in the Indian Ocean. Their concert at DePaard was their only stop in Holland and my good friend Brian Keyo and I were special guests. We’d traveled from Amsterdam and surprised the band at their hotel with some special gifts that afternoon.
