The Congos

The legendary vocal group, The Congos in Kingston. (2009)

Following up the earlier Lee Perry post, I thought this image would be appropriate since Scratch produced their acclaimed “Heart Of The Congos” LP in 1977. The Congos started out in the mid 1970’s with “Ashanti” Roy Johnson and Cedric Myton and later added (by Perry) Watty Burnett. Here they are at sunset outside Chinna Smith’s Inna Di Yard studio just after finishing up some of the recording for the song “Chain Gang”.

  1. I had the opportunity, as a great fan of their music, to meet and greet The Congoes at Uppsala Reggae Festival in Sweden at 2006. Very enjoyable to see that the URF-clothing is still in use at 2009 🙂
