Chaka Demus & Pliers backstage at S.O.B.’s in NYC. (1993)
They put on a good intimate show that night, was a good crowd with lots of energy. I did a few CD covers for them a while back, the last one was for RAS Records “Help Them Lord“. We hung out a good portion of the day in Portmore shooting them with groups of kids. Afterwords we went to Jolly’s, a local restaurant/bar and drank many cognac and Redstripes. It was a good time for sure, we were kinda trapped there waiting for Kingston’s horrendous traffic to die down, so we made the best of it. I also had to wait for my driver as well who was coming from Kingston, so when he finally arrived, it was time for even more Redstripes, I got back pretty late that night.
The duo was supposed to start doing a tour that included some of Europe’s biggest reggae festivals, but they had to cancel at the last-minute. Apparently after a show in Martinique Chaka Demus became sick upon returning to Jamaica. They were promoting their latest release “One Night Stand“. Also just re-released on iTunes was a remix of their Michael Jackson cover of “Billy Jean“, check it out.
