Hold On Tight

A Rastaman’s house in the rolling hills of Jamaica. (2010)

I was just listening to some tunes this morning and reading the news. Not much good news out there today, then this Melodians song came on giving a bit more hope. I’ve always loved the Melodians for their smooth vocals and lyrics. “Hold On Tight” is just as relevant today as when it was written over 30 years ago. Now if only we could all live by these words.

I say, hold on tight, don’t let Jah go, hold on tight, don’t let him go

Hold on tight, don’t let Jah go, oh no, hold on tight, don’t let him go

Take a look at humanity, take a look at ourselves, see this insanity

It’s not good for humanity, Jah give us this earth to live, he gave us water to drink,

He gave us food to eat now, good herbs to heal all the nations,

Me say hold on tight, don’t let Jah go, hold on tight, don’t let him go, no

Look what we have done, we have plundered all this destruction, we got so much pollution,

And they are building their nuclear weapons, no wicked shall not enter mount inna Zion,

We got to live up strong, got to be a lion, hold on tight, don’t let Jah go, hold on tight, don’t let him go

Hold on tight, don’t let Jah go.
