Culture Backstage

Joseph Hill and Culture backstage in Cleveland, Ohio. (1991)

Joseph Hill exhales backstage. This shot was taken on Joseph’s birthday, the plastic cups on the table were for the champagne that we would soon be toasting with. Towards the end of the show, the tour bus driver “Uncle Travis” came up on stage with a birthday cake and everyone in the club sang happy birthday, it was a special moment for sure.

It was also Grammy night so we had the little TV backstage tuned in to see wha gwan. This night was also when I started my documentary project that would turn into the book Reggae Island. Joseph was the 1st person interviewed for the book and this photo appeared in the book as well. Pictured are Myrie (keyboardist, seated in front), Bubbles (bass, standing in back), and Lawrence Lewis (keyboards, watching TV) standing next to Joseph is an unidentified bredrin from Cleveland.
