Memorial Wall

Murder victims names on a memorial wall in Waterhouse. (1996)

There was a shooting this past Friday where some nut killed 28 people, 20 of them were 1st graders in their classroom. Guns are everywhere today and won’t be going away anytime soon. The photo above is another reminder, painted on the wall are the names of victims of gun violence in this one neighborhood, most here were teenagers. In 2005 Jamaica had the highest murder rate in the world, it has since declined a bit in part due to the crackdown on gangs.

Despite having very strict gun laws in Jamaica, prison for even possessing bullets the violence seems hard to manage. I’ve known over a half-dozen people killed by the gun in Jamaica and NYC and it is never easy to deal with. My heart and prayers go out to the victims and their families of this tragic event in Connecticut.
