Jamaican trumpeter and original Skatalite, Johnny “Dizzy” Moore rehearses on the bus with sax player Howard Messman. (1998)
This image was from behind the scenes at the 5th Sierra Nevada Music Festival. Dizzy was there as part of Earl “Chinna” Smith’s High Times PLayers. The band did their own set and then went on as the all-star backing band for Johnny Clark, Mutabaruka as well as Junior Byles in his first show ever outside of Jamaica.
Being the 5th anniversary show the festival had a stellar lineup. With Scientist at the mixing board, the performers included Johnny Clarke, Culture, Toots & The Maytals, Earl Zero, Jah Shaka, The Mystic Revealers, Spearhead, Tippa Irie, LKJ & Dennis Bovell, Mutabaruka, Anthony B, Salif Keita and many more. Will post more pics from the show later so stay tuned.
