Michael Rose joined Black Uhuru in 1977 after Don Carlos and Garth Dennis had left. His unique voice and song writing took the band to a new level. Those attributes helped them win the Grammy for the Best Reggae Album 1985 for “Anthem”, the first ever Grammy for reggae music. This photo was from groups “Red” tour which backed by Sly & Robbie. Also on the bill for this show was Zapp featuring Rodger Troutman.
“Red” is a great album and was on the list of the top 100 albums of the 1980’s by Rolling Stone magazine. My favorite Black Uhuru album is probably “Black Uhuru” produced by Sly & Robbie with Shine Eye Gal, Leaving To Zion, General Penitentiary, Guess Who’s Coming To Diner, Abortion, some wicked tunes for sure.
