The Meditations

Winston Watson of The Meditations live at the Palladium in NYC, April 20th 1990.

This image was from an incredible show at the old Palladium in New York City. The concert featured three bands, Alpha Blondy, Israel Vibrations and the Meditations. The Palladium in the 80’s & 90’s was mostly part of the NYC dance club scene and rarely had any reggae shows. Seeing a show like this with three great bands was a real treat. I do remember they had a great light show.

Built in 1927 and originally called the Academy of Music, the Palladium opened as a deluxe movie palace and was a movie theater until the 1970’s. In 1971 when the famous Fillmore East closed the Palladium was converted to a new concert venue. Tons of top name acts played there in its heyday, U2, Iggy Pop, The Band, Frank Zappa, Genesis, Kiss, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Iron Maiden, the list goes on and on. The Palladium closed in 1999 and was torn down to make room for another dorm for New York University. The new dorm building kept the name Palladium.
