Natty Dread

“And then I walk up the first street ….”  lyrics from the Bob Marley song Natty Dread.

This is a picture of Lower First street in Trench Town of which Bob was singing about in Natty Dread.   It was here in the 1960’s where Bob learned to play the guitar from Vincent “Tata” Ford, that’s Tata’s gate, first on the right (now the Bob Marley Culture Yard). This is also the same government yard where Bob got his inspiration for the song No Woman No Cry which he co-wrote with Tata. Over the years I have spent a lot of time photographing in Trench Town and the people I had got to know there are some of the best, unfortunately many of those same people are no longer with us today because of the violence that plagues the area.
